DIALECTICAL MATERIALISM
Karsten Schubert London x Park Village x Branch Arts
A Collaboration, Celebration and, most importantly, a Commemoration
On the outer circle of Regent’s Park you will find a converted Victorian riding house that now exists as a photography and film studio known as Park Village. Branch Arts is delighted to work with Park Village as their art ambassadors facilitating visual art collaborations.
In April 2019, the brilliant Karsten Schubert (1961-2019), saw the potential in the space to host his groundbreaking exhibition Dialectical Materialism: Aspects of British Sculpture since the 1960s during Frieze Week. Conceived by Karsten as a window into the shifting terrain of British sculpture over the last fifty years, the exhibition included museum quality pieces by Anthony Caro, Barry Flanagan, Richard Long, William Turnbull, Rachel Whiteread and Alison Wilding. These six hugely talented sculptors not only dealt with their own ideas about material and space but also boldly responded to what came before them.
Amongst the chaos and fast-moving pace of Frieze week, Dialectical Materialism at Park Village was an incredibly poignant exhibition, celebrating the life and work of Karsten. Throughout the 10 day exhibition, Branch was delighted to host collectors; artists and co partners including a special breakfast co-hosted for Pangaea Sculpture (PSC) who we continue to support.
