In Our Dreams We See Forever
ROBERT MONTGOMERY’S NEW ART COMMISSION UNVEILED
IN AID OF ROYAL SOCIETY FOR BLIND CHILDREN
At dusk on 31 January, The Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC) revealed In Our Dreams We See Forever (2018), a new art commission by artist Robert Montgomery to raise awareness for the charity. A custom-designed vehicle topped with one of Montgomery’s trademark light poems on the roof, along with a video-installation on the inside, lit up Granary Square in King's Cross, kick-starting a 6-month nationwide tour.
In Our Dreams We See Forever only reveals itself fully to a Braille-literate, partially-sighted audience, as part of the art piece consists of the words in Braille of children living with sight loss. Inside the vehicle, visitors are immersed within an intimate conversation between some of these children, surrounding the viewer with heart-wrenching and compelling accounts of their dreams and aspirations. This immersive 4-screen video installation drums home what it really feels like to be a child living with sight loss.
Branch Arts were tasked with engaging an artist to respond to the campaign brief to make the “invisible unmissable”. From the six creative interpretations from leading artists presented to the client, Branch Arts worked with Robert Montgomery to co-produce the final transportable sculpture. In addition to the curatorial and production collaboration, Branch have facilitated the launch venue and hospitality partnerships. Following its London launch, the artwork will tour the country throughout 2018.
