UK for UNHCR

We are delighted to support UK for UNHCR by donating 10% of proceeds from the sales of work from Kate Daudy’s online exhibition, I KNEW YOU WOULD COME BACK TO ME, to help families displaced by crises across the world

“The gracefulness of spirit, and generosity and dignity of these people; it really changed my life”

- Kate Daudy

Kate Daudy is passionate about the critical work UNHCR does to help the suffering of refugees across the globe. In 2016 she was designated by ONUART and commissioned to work on a used UNHCR refugee tent provided to her. Daudy travelled around the Middle East and Europe asking diplomats, refugees, psychologists, aid workers, doctors, peace-workers, volunteers, religious leaders and soldiers from nearly 60 countries for anything that could be learned for the future from this deep crisis, which now affects some 80 million people. Her personal insights and research culminated in a multi-media art installation entitled, Am I My Brother’s Keeper? which centred on a standard issue UNHCR tent in which a family lived for several months. Daudy used the tent as the canvas to inscribe phrases and quotations she had gathered in conversations with displaced people in many countries.

UK for UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency’s national charity partner for the UK, building solidarity and raising funds to protect refugees worldwide through UNHCR’s work.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, leads international action to protect people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. Thanks to voluntary contributions from their UK supporters and partnerships, UNHCR teams are helping displaced people reach safety and rebuild their lives; from emergency relief for civilians on the front lines of conflict, to delivering healthcare, education and livelihoods for families unable to return home.

The COVID-19 Crisis

Refugees and other displaced families are particularly at risk during the COVID-19 outbreak, because they often have limited access to water, sanitation systems and health facilities. Millions live in crowded camps and informal settlements, where isolation and social distancing aren’t possible or practical – and the disease is spreading fast as a result.

In response, UNHCR is:

  • Stepping up health, water, sanitation and hygiene services to protect refugees and displaced people, including working with governments to ensure that people forced to flee are included in preparation and response plans, especially rollouts of COVID-19 vaccines and treatments

  • Working hard along with refugees to protect camps and settlements against COVID outbreaks

  • Providing shelter materials, core relief items and cash assistance to help those who’ve lost their livelihoods as a result of the outbreak
