WRITING YOUR ARTIST NARRATIVE
This is one of the most important lessons you can learn during our mentoring programme. We recommend a one-to-one workshop for this as together we can craft the way you communicate with your audience. 1/2 Day workshops or studio visits provide the perfect place to work on writing your artist narrative.
Your Story…
What. Make sure to state what medium you work in (paintings, sculptures, installation, non-narrative video, durational performance, etc.) It is amazing how many statements don’t include the outcomes of your work.
How. If you have a truly unique process that’s important to understand—or one that images can’t accurately convey—briefly describe how you make your work.
Why. You make work because you want to tell a story, are influenced by art history or have a physical urge. All reasons to create are valid and being able to communicate yours provides a cord to your audience.
