A MESSAGE FROM ALF LÖHR

When my paintings leave the studio they become companions to the people who choose to live with them. The collectors bounce their thoughts and feelings off them, day after day. The painting is there for them. They inhabit places free of obligation, allowing for emotional space and, unlike any statement art, can also be quiet when other things matter.

According to collectors, they give you permission - a kind of entrance to a world of feeling. Not in terms of simple feelings, like ‘sad’ or ‘happy’, but of feelings that transport you to another consciousness.

All that my paintings ask for, in return, are to be spared the garish click and blip of a screen. They have not been made for that. I did not paint them to be rich or famous - to share their image far and wide, or to saturate the growing digital universe with their likeness.

These paintings have left my studio to be exhibited in real life - to be seen and witnessed in front of the naked eye, at the authentic, creative setting of Wilcote.

For this reason, these paintings will be kept very much in the physical world for the duration of my exhibition. Please come by to see them for yourself.
